Yikes....critters in the yard this morning......

Just down, making a cup of tea in the kitchen, looked out.......a big body just outside, heading toward my raised beds.....Called Hubby...."There's a big frikkin' moose in the yard!"

There were two, a cow and a bull.

By the time he got the camera out, they were acting very skittishly. (Sorry the pics aren't very good) Taking the line of least resistance, they walked rapidly across the front of the yard and out the driveway entrance instead of just bolting through the trees and over the rock fence.

She had been heading towards the raised beds....Hearing us talking inside, made her uncertain and she turned back...Thankfully.
I was 'chastised' for being too loud and scaring them away,
Gardeners.....what would you have done??????

  1. O.K., so I literally run out of the house when I see a rabbit in my garden from the kitchen window. Can you imagine the decimation that big old mouth could have caused in your raised beds? Yes, they are majestic creatures, but nobody wants them in their vegetables! -Jenn

  2. They would have decimated your whole garden lickety-split. What would I have done? Yelled for my husband and told him to go get the bazooka. (Just kidding. We have no bazooka.)

    1. Been lucky so far, with regards to gardens and hungry beasts. A fence wouldn't work on those guys, they just plough right through!

  3. We had one walk down our back path the other night! I'm happy the population is rebounding in our immediate area.

    1. The bush is becoming more mature as the years go by, making better habitat for moose, although deer (and moose!) love the new growth wherever there has been recent logging done.

    2. A couple of our neighbours have done some logging on their holding. They see moose more than we do with our mature bush, which hasn't been cut in over 100 yrs.
