Only -16C early this morning, rising to -6.... practically balmy! Right from the sunrise, the sky has been clear, and it is now a beautiful, full sun day.
We got about 4 to 5 inches of fluffy, poofy snow last night, glittering in the light as it fell in big flakes. This morning, all the tree limbs are accented with snow. The birds, coming and going from the feeder to the apple tree, cause little puffs of snow to drift down every time they alight on a limb.
My snowshoes sank right down through this ethereal white stuff when I went for a walk around, absorbing the beauty of the day. Pristinely white, sparkly expanses stretch out in all directions.
I've got a pot of greens growing under lights, from which we have harvested leaves several times for sandwiches.
A bud is rising from the one amaryllis bulb I brought in. The days are getting longer and brighter.......
How beautiful! We just switched to midsummer weather here in Florida yesterday. Happy Valentine's Day :)
ReplyDeleteMidsummer? July must be brutal! I do love my snow and cold! This time of year, as the daylight lengthens and the sun gets stronger....Miraculous.
DeleteWe're having the same weather, but minus the snow. Sure wish we could get some because without the banking of adequate snow up around the house, the cold just seems to be creeping in farther and farther. We have -18° this morning and maybe hitting 0° as a predicted high. The lack of snow is good for the deer population as they can still bound away from the hungry wolves. And perhaps the wolves can still find rodents beneath our thin covering of snow. Your pictures are loverly!
ReplyDeleteWe bank up the house as well, and this light fluffy stuff is the best insulator. Our deer have all gone 'south', and it will be "Happy Spring Dance" day when we spot the first triangular tracks up here! The wolves are still crossing our property on the way to and from the deer yard. They refuse to walk on the snowshoe trails, although they will go on a ploughed road???!!

DeleteGreat idea to have some lettuces and greens growing all winter. I used to do that, and I need to start that again! It's so nice to have fresh lettuce (even if it's baby size) during the winter! I got my snowshoes out this past week too!
