Weather, deer and Christmas wishes....

Our weather is on some weird roller-coaster ride at present. Lately, we've had every kind of precipitation known to man. Last night the temperature did not even drop to freezing, and today the temperature is supposed to go up to an unprecedented 12C. (54F) There is a skim of 'sort of' snow...ice pellets/sleet, on the ground, and lots of icy spots, so walking is pretty iffy on untreated surfaces. I am longing for a proper snowfall and cold, cold temperatures. (The header picture is from a previous, more snowy December!)

I've been doing a little Christmas baking for humans, and dog friends.

On the crafting front, some crocheted pot holders, a little gift for a friend.

The deer were starting to move to their winter yards before the snow melted.

Oh Oh...Busted!!

Here is a cute, short video of a young 'button buck', this spring's fawn. It was taken earlier, in November. He was eating apples from under the apple tree behind the barn. The direction he is looking in, is toward the house, so maybe he heard a thump from us, perhaps getting wood out of the back porch, as he did not run away.

Just wanted to drop in and wish everyone happiness, good health and peace for the Christmas season.

  1. The same good wishes for the upcoming holiday season to you, too! Our weather has been much like yours. A real roller coaster of ups and downs. It was in the high 40s in the middle of last night with thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Tonight we're supposed to go down to only 8° above zero. Such craziness. The tornadoes in Kentucky recently and last night one (along with straight line winds in nearby other areas) touched down in SE Minnesota doing extensive damage. One death has been reported. A tornado in Minnesota . . . unheard of in December. Stay safe and warm and healthy.

    1. Mama Pea, thank you. Yes, crazy weather. Yesterday, the wind started just before noon, power was fluctuating at the library where I posted, then went out. Last night was not a good night for sleeping, with the intense gusts buffeting the house. The temperature topped out at 15C (59F) yesterday. This is December???? Your tornadoes were on the news last night. Unheard of. Our winds were the tail of that system.

  2. Hi Rosalea! Your potholders are so cute!!! I love that you're making bone-shaped cookies for the doggies! So nice to see the deer. I haven't seen any so far this month, but there are LOTS of tracks out there. They're up before I am! 12 degrees? Hmmm...I'm torn...I kind of want that weather lol...but I do love the snow in December! It's rainy and mild, just above zero here these days!

    1. Hi Rain. Thank you. You wouldn't want the winds that come with that temperature! We are hoping to get snow back, as its all gone now except in sheltered, north facing areas.

  3. Your doggie bone dog biscuits are so cute! And I love your potholders.

I have to ask what kind of trail cam you have. The photos are fantastic!

    1. Thanks Leigh. Most are Tasco cameras. We have about 5 distributed around the property. All the cameras are basic, and had low price points. Video mode takes up a lot of battery life, so most are set for stills. The clearness of the pics varies with weather conditions. We sort through a lot of pics to get some half-way reasonable ones. The video was from an 'Apeman' camera.

  4. I love your deer pictures! You made me think, my header photo is from another time, too. We don't have a stitch of snow here. I was out in just a hoodie and t-shirt today. Crazy wind, though. -Jenn

    1. Thank you, Jenn. Yes, our snow is gone from all the open areas now. My garden beds are bare, black rectangles. Sure hope we get some snow back soon! The wind is still gusting this AM, but with less ferocity.
